David T. Ochs, President and CEO of OSF Saint James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac, recently announced the appointment of Trent D. Proehl, M.D., a General Surgeon, as the Chief Medical Officer at OSF Saint James effective May 2, 2011. Dr. Proehl will be replacing Steve Norris, M.D., who is transferring to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria in July to take on additional administrative and patient care responsibilities.
Dr. Proehl has been a general surgeon at OSF Saint James since August of 2004. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois, College of Medicine at Peoria in 1999. He completed the five-year residency training program at OSF Saint Francis in Peoria in June of 2004. Dr. Proehl became certified by the American Board of Surgery in October 2005.
As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Proehl will be a member of the hospital executive team to assure consistency in practice standards and to facilitate an interdisciplinary approach to the delivery of care. He will direct the development of strategies to promote improvement in patient care and participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical programs and services. In addition, he will provide leadership in the establishment of the Physician Leadership Council to assure compliance with all applicable standards, requirements and regulations. As the administrative liaison to the Medical Staff, Dr. Proehl will also provide leadership in obtaining educational support to improve clinical performance, communication and the practice of evidence-based medicine.
